- Q: How strong are the vacuum mounts?
- A: “Strong like bull.” 4.5” vacuum mounts have a rated pull strength of 120lbs, pulling straight out from center. Pull strength on a shear load, i.e. pulling from the side, will be less. 6” vacuum mounts are 210lbs rated. Obviously, putting multiple vacuum mounts on a single product multiplies the maximum holding power.
- Q: How long do the vacuum mounts last before they lose power?
- A: There’s no set time limit on our vacuum mounts. It depends in part on the surface you attach to, the condition of the vacuum mount, the load you put on it, and other factors. As for surfaces to attach to, vacuum mounts in general were designed to carry big sheets of glass and other solid surface materials, so smoother, flatter surfaces are ideal. Clean surfaces and clean SeaSuckers go a long way to maximizing the hold time. In any event, if the vacuum mount begins to lose some vacuum, it will warn you so you can get it back to full power before it comes off. The vacuum pump’s plunger will extend from the pump cylinder when it starts to lose power, revealing an orange indicator band. Once you see orange, that’s your cue to repump your SeaSucker.
- Q: Do I need to clean the surface I’m going to attach my SeaSucker to?
- A: Clean off any surface dirt from the mounting surface before attaching your SeaSucker. While you’re at it, make sure the sealing edge of the vacuum pad is clean too. You don’t have to clean the mounting surface with alcohol wipes, as one overly-enthusiastic customer told us they do, but a quick wipe with a wet paper towel or napkin wouldn’t hurt. I've heard the name "SeaSucker" and have heard some good and some bad, I decided to give it a try based on being a Florida company with US made products. I change trucks every 2 years or less and wanted to avoid the cost, downtime and permanence of another NMO or hard mount antenna. I work in the energy services business and cell phone boosters are a must. This unit seems to hold well but will require daily pumps no matter how much effort you put into cleaning and prepping. If you had a road trip and needed this it wouldn't be bad, it would be had to justify the price for a few uses. Overall it does feel quality but it is also bulky and protrudes pretty far off your back glass. That said the sucker does it's job. I have run 85+ mph West Texas roads without issue, driving rains, winds and sand have not shaken it loose nor have ranch roads, forest service roads or any other harsh conditions I've thrown at it. You can fold down and run through a carwash without too much worry as well.
Overall it's not a bad product but in retrospect I will just bite the bullet and hard mount the antenna going forward.

If you want it to become more permanent, just leave it on the vehicle and keep re-pumping. After about 2 weeks, you'll hardly have to pump the mounts up moving forward. Dust fills in the microscopic holes that air escapes and makes the vacuum mounts nearly resilient to losing vacuum pressure.

This is what I was looking for. No need to drill holes in the bed cover or on bed rails. The grip is amazing. I paired the sea sucker with a cb antenna mount so I can fold down when not in use.

It's an excellent mount and it's an attractive mount that just works. I have it mounted on the top of a utility bed and usually only have to re pump it every 2 to 3 days. I also move it between vehicles to back windshields of a Ram dually and a Can Am defender that has a back windshields. Excellent product.
